Prince William focuses on homelessness impact on women

Prince William visited Newport to learn more about how women experiencing homelessness are given support and hope.
The Prince of Wales focused on the importance of providing specific support to women who are experiencing homelessness.
Findings of the work by his Homewards campaign discussed how women face different concerns when they are sleeping rough. They are more likely to experience "hidden homelessness" as sleeping rough can lead to greater safety concerns than men. They will instead turn to friends and family for short-term stays or sleep on public transportation.
Prince William was at the Nelson Trust to meet with several different organisations looking to help provide support and prevent women's homelessness.
As a part of his visit, William was able to see six portraits of women who have experienced homelessness. He was able to speak with five of the six women and how the support that they have received has helped.
The series of photographs is aimed at changing public ideas of homelessness and the surrounding stigma.
One of the women, Rebecca, shared the challenges that she has faced and the factors that contributed to her homelessness. The Prince shared how impressed he was, saying ”you seem like a force of nature, Rebecca.. What you have been through, you have been through more things than people go through in their entire lifetimes.”
The Nelson Trust is one of the organisations working with Homewards, the project that William is leading to help end homelessness in the United Kingdom.
