Matt Reeves has shared some new details about Robert Pattinson's character in The Batman 2.
The Batman was released in United States theaters in March 2022. The film stars Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James "Jim" Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/Penguin.
With HBO's The Penguin, a Farrell-led show that serves as a spin-off to The Batman, having just concluded its eight-episode run, Reeves is now sharing some details about what fans can expect from Pattinson's character in The Batman: Part II.
What plot details did Matt Reeves tease for The Batman 2?
Speaking with Digital Spy, Reeves said that Pattinson's Bruce Wayne will be finding it "very hard to be Batman" in the forthcoming sequel.
Regarding the events of The Penguin and why Pattinson was absent from the show, Reeves said, "This was a time of great turmoil in the city, it's literally the week after what happened. Much of the city is in desperation, so police can't get everywhere, there's crime everywhere, it's a very, very dangerous time."
He also noted, "[Batman's] out there trying to grapple with the aftermath of everything that happened, which to some degree he blames himself for."
Plot details for The Batman: Part II remain under wraps at this time. Along with Pattinson, Wright, Serkis, and Farrell have all been confirmed to be returning for the sequel. One of the final scenes of The Penguin also hints that Kravitz may reprise her Catwoman role sometime in the near future, though it hasn't been officially confirmed when she'll next appear.
The Batman: Part II will be released in United States theaters on October 2, 2026.
The Batman and The Penguin, meanwhile, are both currently available to stream on Max.
