New "Ghostbusters" Animated Film In Works

Sony Animation and Netflix are aiming to expand the “Ghostbusters” universe with the companies teaming on an animated film based on the property.

The project is reportedly still in early development with Kris Pearn attached to direct. Plot specifics are being kept under wraps.

The hope for the project is to do for “Ghostbusters” what the “Spider-Verse” films have done for “Spider-Man” – generating not just box-office but strong critical acclaim as well.

The property was previously adapted for animation back in the late 1980s with the beloved “The Real Ghostbusters” series and the less well-known sequel series “Extreme Ghostbusters”.

Word came back in June that an animated supernatural comedy series based on the property is also in the works at Netflix. That project is reportedly a completely separate work from the new animated film.

Pearn previously directed “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2” for Sony Animation and “The Willoughbys” for Netflix.
