Gigi Hadid Says She and Ex Zayn Malik 'Have Each Other's Backs' as She Shares New Details About Co-Parenting Daughter Khai

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik are fully focused on raising their daughter.

The model, 29, who covers Vogue's April issue, opened up about the many parts of her life, from motherhood to her career. Hadid offered rare comments about her co-parenting experience with her ex-boyfriend, 32, saying that they both "have each other's backs" when it comes to taking care of their daughter Khai, 4.

"Zayn and I do our custody schedules months in advance," Hadid told the outlet. "That doesn't mean that it doesn't change here and there, but we help each other out and have each other's backs."

Hadid and the former One Direction star welcomed their daughter Khai in September 2020 after dating on and off since 2016. The supermodel first confirmed she was expecting a child with the former One Direction singer during an April 2020 interview with Jimmy Fallon.

Although Hadid and Malik split in October 2021 following an alleged altercation with Hadid's mother, Yolanda, the former couple have fallen naturally into their roles as parents. Hadid told Vogue that she and the "It's You" singer have entered a phase in their relationship filled with "love, and a feeling of camaraderie," adding that they're now accepting the highs and lows that come with co-parenting in their very public lifestyle.

"There is the hard part of the world knowing this much, and thinking they know everything," Hadid said. "And at the end of the day, we're not interested in giving everyone our whole story. What we are interested in is raising our daughter together, with so much respect for each other, and not just as co-parents, but what we've been through together."

While chatting with The Sunday Times in March 2023, Hadid raved about her daughter and shared that she's "so glad to be a young mom." The model went on to add that she tries to schedule work obligations when Khai is with Malik. "That she can be with both parents makes me very happy," Hadid said.

When Khai celebrated her fourth birthday in September 2024, both of her parents paid tribute to her on Instagram, with Hadid sharing that they spent the day at the park and ate rainbow cake for breakfast.

"Khai- it is my life's greatest joy and pride to be your mama!!!! Thank you for the four best years of my life- you remind me to live life to the fullest every day, in the most simple & beautiful ways," Hadid wrote in an Instagram post.

Meanwhile, the "Pillowtalk" singer called Khai "the most important person in my life" in an Instagram post of his own, adding, "Beyond proud to call you my daughter.. grateful for every second I get to spend next to you, as you become the incredible person I know you already are."
