EMMERDALE fans think they have twigged onto the reason for Nate Robinson’s disappearance on the soap.

Viewers were left worried that the long running character had died in an explosive fire at the Dingle’s barn after Nate went missing around the same time it went up in flames.

However, after spotting on screen clues, some now think he is still alive – but suspect someone close to him is responsible for his disappearance.

Nate was recently involved in some drama in the Dales as Moira went in for a kiss with him.

Cain Dingle was furious to hear about the incident and went after Nate, assuming the pair were having an affair.

Rather than listening to his son’s explanations he got violent, and in the aftermath a badly beaten Nate decided to leave his life in Emmerdale behind and take a new job in the Shetlands.

Since then he hasn't been heard or seen from.

Cain later discovered that Moira has been suffering from a brain tumour, causing her to act out.

He was filled with remorse after realising he unfairly attacked Nate and left him a repentant voicemail.

But he has received no response from the man.

Nate’s estranged wife Tracey also attempted to contact him, only to receive a strange text in response asking for her not to reach out to him.

Viewers noted this was strange because he has a daughter with Tracey and would not decline to pick up her calls in case it was something to do with their girl.

Some fans are suspicious that newcomer John Sugden might be responsible for Nate’s disappearance.

After thinking back to the moment when he decided to leave the village, they realised the last person he spoke to was John.

John was then spotted looking shifty beside his van after encouraging Nate to leave for the Shetland islands – making viewers think he may have killed or kidnapped him.

An Emmerdale fan shared their theory in an online forum, saying: “If that was his exit then how very odd low key!!

“However John was the only one to see him before the fire and then acted oddly stood at his van.

“Are we to see an upcoming storyline of John the killer and he’s texting Tracey from Nate’s phone?”

Another added to the speculation, pointing out: “We don’t know who John really is. Maybe Nate found out something about him?

“If the writers were just going to have Nate leave without speaking to any of his family, then there was no point to his last scene.

“His last scene was him FUMING (understandably) about the way he’d been treated. His own father had battered him for something he didn’t do.

“He was determined to get Moira to say what really happened. It’s too much to expect people to believe that he went from that to doing a complete U-turn (off screen) as if he thought ‘oh well never mind, I’ll just leave instead’.

“And if someone (probably John) has killed him then they’ve obviously got his phone and sent that text to Tracy to stop her from getting suspicious.”
