A FOOTBALLER’S wife was branded the “Lidl of WAGs” by a cruel troll – but immediately got the last laugh with her funny comeback.

Jilly Cross, from Glasgow, is married to ex-Rangers and current Motherwell star Andy Halliday.

But she’s also hugely successful in her own right with more than 380,000 followers across her social media channels and her own fashion label, Dula.

Fans love everything from her down-to-earth personality and Primark hauls, to her designer wardrobe and lavish holidays.

Being in the social media spotlight, however, also means she attracts the odd troll or two.

After giving followers a glimpse of her “mini moon” to Stockholm with her new hubby, one hater wrote: “It's heavy funny you think you're a Wag and married to Andy Halliday.

“You're like the Lidl of Wags hahaha.”

Replying with her typical humour, Jilly sarcastically hit back: “Do you mean Lidl as in little, like skinny? Wait, do you think I’m really skinny? [screams].”

She added: “Said Lidl like I should be offended???”

The red-haired beauty’s clip quickly went viral with more than 880,000 views.

And social media users definitely have Jilly’s back.

“Lidl is elite anyways”, insisted one.

A second wrote: “Too funny…. Lidl is class!! If they are tying to offend you they should’ve said like the Co-op or something.”

A third echoed: “Lidl’s pain au chocolat is up there with the best pastries I’ve ever had…I'd take that as compliment.”

A fourth added: “Your comebacks are legendary.”

“Love this response girl”, chimed in a fifth.

Meanwhile, a sixth said: “But then again everyone loves Lidl, they’re just jealous.”

Jilly and Andy enjoyed an intimate wedding ceremony with under 30 guests in her parents’ back garden in July, after football finished for the season.

It comes after the down-to-earth pair made things official at City Chambers in Glasgow and got a lift back to their reception in Jilly’s uncle’s black cab.

Andy Halliday began his youth career with boyhood club Rangers but was released in 2006.

He made his first-team debut with Livingston two years later, before signing for Middlesbrough at the age of 18 under Gordon Strachan’s leadership.

He had spells with Blackpool and Bradford City before making his return to Ibrox in 2015, spending five years with the Glasgow side.

The midfielder joined Hearts in 2020 then moved on to Motherwell at the start of this year. He’s scored 53 goals in his career so far.

He’s also a regular radio pundit on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, and on the Open Goal podcast alongside Si and Ferry and Paul Slane.
