Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 7 Recap: A Potential Collision on Parsifal III
Today at 08:39 AM
We're back with the recap for Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 7. Last week, Gary tried to cool his jets with the female crew members, but Danni continued to flirt with him. Daisy questioned some of the chef's choices for food presentation as not being up to super yacht standards, but when she tried to advise him, he got defensive. And Gary's reaching the end of his yacht rope with Emma's work ethic and seeming lack of experience. Here's exactly what went down in BDSY Season 5, Episode 7: "My Super Sideways Sixteen."
What happened in Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 7?
In this week's episode, Daisy and Captain Glenn both urge Chef to step up his game, and he finally takes their advice to heart. On the crew night out, Danni tries to flirt with Keith, but he’s not interested in Gary’s sloppy seconds, much to her dismay. Gary has a chat with Emma about her lack of intiative and asks if she really wants to be here. And the Parsifal III is endangered by another boat that drifts too close late at night, causing Gary to take emergency measures. Here are some of the highlights from BDSY Season 5, Episode 7.
Captain Glenn asks Chef Cloyce to step up
After the guests say goodbye, the crew gathers in the lounge for the tip meeting. Captain Glenn has nothing but praise for the deck crew, as well as the interior crew. But he has some suggestions for Cloyce, who doesn't think he needs any improvement.
"For the next charter, I want you to focus on prepping better," Glenn says. "And I want you to think outside of the box. There's a very high standard … I always want to keep pushing higher."
"I don't think of myself as being one of those ego-driven chefs," Cloyce interviews. "But Daisy and Glenn's constructive criticism’s kind of ruining my whole day. I would much prefer to not be in this situation."
Glenn says they're picking up their next charter tomorrow. "Tonight is a school night," he warns. So apparently, they can still go out, but can't get too wild.
When the Gary, Cloyce, and Daisy meet with Glenn for the crew meeting, they find out that the next charter will be a family celebrating their daughter's 16th birthday. For Alana's Sweet Sixteen, the primaries are requesting a formal white-glove service dinner. Chef is really going to have to step it up for this one.
Indeed, Glenn urges Cloyce to go "above and beyond for Alana's birthday." No family style dinners, please.
Keith rejects Danni’s advances because she already made out with his boss
At dinner, Danni sits next to Keith and tries to flirt with him, but he's kind of over it. "Whatever this is with Danni, it's starting to feel like work and not fun," he interviews.
"Learning that Danni has kissed Gary," he adds, "it's not banter like it was at the beginning. It's becoming something weird. I'm not super keen on it."
Meanwhile, Cloyce is busy planning his menu for tomorrow night. Hopefully, he'll be able to pull off something fabulous and recover everyone's respect.
"I feel like Cloyce has really taken my feedback on board," Daisy says in a confessional. "He is really putting a big effort in."
In fact, when the crew returns to the boat after dinner, Cloyce goes straight to the galley. Rather than getting some rest, he's making squid ink ravioli.
After a dip in the hot tub, Keith and Danni stretch out in deck chairs on the bow.
"Don't look at me like that," Keith tells her. "You had your chance."
"What do you mean?" she asks.
"Honestly, I'll tell you right now," he responds. "If you hadn't hooked up with Gary … I don't want to get involved in anything weird."
In an interview, Danni says, "I f*cking hate rejection. I wouldn't have kissed Gary if it didn't take [Keith] this f*cking long to kiss me. Whatever."
Danni decides to just "move on to the next, like it never happened. It's f*cking embarrassing."
When she hears Danni talking about getting rejected by Keith, Daisy says, "You didn't just kiss anyone. You kissed his roommate and his boss … I don't think him feeling insecure is actually that weird."
Gary tries to get Emma to take some initiative
"Hey, Glenn, can we have a chat?” Gary asks. “How do you teach initiative?"
He says that Emma stands around a lot, waiting around to be told what to do. "She's having a smoke, then she's having a tea. Then she's on her phone."
"Emma’s an excuse-maker," Gary interviews. "There's always a reason behind it not being done."
"If we don't see a massive improvement today," Glenn decides, "I'm going to have to start looking for somebody else."
But as the guests get out of the water and use the on-deck shower, Emma just stands and watches. Meanwhile, Gary's handing out towels.
When everyone goes below, he asks Emma, "Are you happy to be here, Em?"
She assures him that she is and asks, "Why?"
"To be honest with you, I see a lack of urgency," he says. "A lot of waiting around and watching. And if I ask you to do things, you're like, 'No, I can't do it.' Then you go for a coffee, and then it's a cigarette, then it's another coffee … It just seems like you don't really want to be here."
"I think it's really unfair that you're putting all this on me," Emma responds.
"It's just what I've noticed," Gary responds. "We're all a team here, and it feels like we're picking up a lot of slack. That's why I'm telling you this now, so you can improve."
"Noted," she replies, wiping away tears behind her sunglasses.
Reporting back to Glenn, Gary says, "I tried to speak to her in the nicest way possible, and then she said I was being unfair to her … She did not take it well."
"Just let her simmer down a little bit,” Glenn advises. “We’ll see what happens in the next couple of days."
Another boat drifts too close for comfort
Cloyce really steps up his game for dinner. Glenn is impressed, as are the guests. He even baked a cake from scratch for dessert! No more family-style service.
"I knew Cloyce had it in him," Daisy says in a confessional. "This is what he was supposed to be doing. This is fantastic. Now all he needs to do is keep it up the rest of the season, and we're on the home stretch."
The primaries are going in to a club in Ibiza at midnight. Gary tells Keith to be on alert that he's going to have to pick them up in the tender at 2:30 when they return.
Shortly after 2:00, Keith gets back in the tender to go pick up the guests. Danni's still working, and the birthday girl's in the hot tub with her friend.
Gary comes up on deck, and suddenly runs down the side of the boat. "Can you go get Glenn?" he shouts as he runs toward the bow. "Oh, for f*ck's sake!"
Apparently, another boat slipped it's anchor and is drifting toward the Parsifal III. That could be a horrible situation if they collide. I'm just glad Gary was on watch and not Emma. She would probably be drinking tea or napping.
"Can you get Emma, too?" Gary yells, as he grabs a fender and prepares to try to avoid a collision.
"Hello!" he shouts, as the other boat gets closer and closer. A very scary situation, indeed.
