State Visits mean State Banquets and State Banquets mean tiaras. While Buckingham Palace has confirmed that The Princess of Wales will not be attending the State Banquet for the imminent Qatari State Visit, she has worn some spectacular looks in the past.

State Banquet, 2015 Chinese State Visit

Her Royal Highness attended her first State Banquet in 2015 when Queen Elizabeth II hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping. She wore a custom-made, scarlet red Jenny Packham gown with cap sleeves and a pleated skirt.

Catherine wore the Lotus Flower Tiara, a piece that jeweller Garrard originally created in 1923 for the then-Duchess of York (late the Queen Mother). In addition to borrowing the tiara from Queen Elizabeth II, Catherine also borrowed a pair of diamond chandelier earrings.

State Banquet, 2017 Spanish State Visit

In July 2017, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain officially visited the United Kingdom. Catherine wore a new-to-her designer for the event, wearing a custom blush pink Marchesa gown. The lace dress featured a v-neck, tulip sleeves, and a mermaid silhouette.

Catherine's true statement at this banquet was her jewellery. She wore Queen Mary's Lover's Knot Tiara, a tiara that she had worn twice already, as well as her late mother-in-law's pearl and diamond earrings from Collingwood. To complete her look, she wore a stunning Boucheron necklace made of diamonds and rubies set in a floral design. Queen Elizabeth had received the necklace as a wedding gift from her parents and loaned it for the evening.

State Banquet, 2023 South Korean State Visit

The Princess of Wales shocked royal watchers everywhere when she wore a tiara that had not been seen in nearly a century. Lady Elizabeth Bowes Lyon received the Strathmore Rose Tiara as a wedding gift from her father when she married Albert, Duke of York – the future George VI.

The tiara features five diamond roses with sprays mimicking leaves in between and was last seen in the 1920s when she wore it for an official portrait. While Elizabeth wore the rose tiara as a bandeau across her forehead, Catherine chose a more formal setting on the top of the crown of the head.

The Princess also turned to Jenny Packham again, for the evening. She wore the Anemone Gown in white, a gown with fluttered cap sleeves and gold embroidery.
