In December 2022, King Charles III gave his first Royal Christmas Broadcast. With his mother's passing on 8 September, his reign was still very new. His first Christmas speech was a heartfelt and touching address to all of his subjects.

King Charles gave his first Christmas address from St. George's Chapel at Windsor, a poignant family setting. His Majesty said ”I am standing here in this exquisite Chapel of St George at Windsor Castle, so close to where my beloved mother, the late Queen, is laid to rest with my dear father.

He thanked the public for all of the kind thoughts that he received following his accession and remarked on how difficult family losses can be at the holidays, saying ”Christmas is a particularly poignant time for all of us who have lost loved ones. We feel their absence at every familiar turn of the season and remember them in each cherished tradition.

King Charles also used his Christmas broadcast as a chance to thank those who have given service to their communities, a constant theme throughout his reign, as he said ”I particularly want to pay tribute to all those wonderfully kind people who so generously give food or donations, or that most precious commodity of all, their time, to support those around them in greatest need, together with the many charitable organisations which do such extraordinary work in the most difficult circumstances.

On Christmas Day 2024, King Charles will give the third festive address of his reign.
