Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway have been busy with Christmas celebrations this week as their family continues to weather a difficult time.

Earlier this week, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess visited a care home for some festive cheer. They met with residents and staff members to learn more about their lives.

The couple were also treated to a carol concert for the residents and were able to see their gingerbread creations.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit also hosted a Christmas gathering for humanitarian workers at the Royal Palace in the chapel. The concert included musical performances and carols, readings, and festive traditions.

Princess Ingrid-Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus joined their parents for the gathering and they lit candles together as a family.

As second-in-line to the throne, Princess Ingrid-Alexandra is continuing to expand her royal role and spoke alone at the event.

The last four months have been increasingly difficult for the family. Crown Princess Mette-Marit's son from a previous relationship, Marius Borg Høiby, was arrested in August and again in September for two alleged assault incidents, and for a third time for an alleged rape in November.

He is currently awaiting a trial and has several restraining orders against him.

The Crown Prince and Crown Princess have not made any comments on Borg Høiby's legal issues, other than reiterating that the police and judiciary officials must be able to carry out their jobs.
