Renowned jazz drummer Roy Haynes has passed away at the age of 99. Haynes collaborated with numerous other jazz musicians in his career which spanned 70 years. He’s fonly known as “Snap Crackle” among fans and in jazz music circles.

According to The New York Times, Roy Haynes has succumbed to death at the age of 99. The news was confirmed to the outlet by his daughter, Leslie Haynes-Gilmore. However, she didn’t mention the exact cause of Haynes’ death and stated that the jazz drummer passed away following his battle with a brief illness.
Following Haynes’ passing, the music world joined in to pay their respects to the iconic jazz musician on social media platforms. The Jazz Estate wrote a heartfelt letter on X (formerly Twitter), stating that they are “deeply saddened to hear of the passing of drummer Roy Haynes.”
They further wrote about his accomplishments as a musician. “In a career lasting over 80 years, Haynes has influenced and innovated, shaping some of the greatest recordings in jazz. On the contrary, in every decade he has been associated with musicians on the cutting edge.”
In his career, Haynes has released numerous albums out of which Whereas (2007), and Fountain of Youth (2004) were nominated for Grammy Awards. Additionally, the jazz icon has two Grammy Awards in his name.
Haynes is survived by his children, 2 sons and 1 daughter. He also has a grandson who has followed in his footsteps and become a drummer.
