The third “Sonic the Hedgehog” is in cinemas now and with it comes some surprise cameos in the film’s mid-credits sequence.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3”

Like the other two films, this one sets up elements of a fourth movie which has already been scheduled for a 2027 release.

In a scene, Sonic finds himself lost in the dark woods – only to encounter Metal Sonic, a character from the game with super-strength, invisibility, chaos powers and self-replication.

Just like the ending of the first two "Sonic the Hedgehog" movies, the third installment sets up the fourth movie – coming to theaters in 2027 – with a surprise cameo.

He’s saved by a cloaked figure who is revealed to be the pink hedgehog Amy Rose. Additionally the post-credits scene confirms that Shadow is still alive and will be back.

Speaking about where things could go with Variety, Sonic voice actor Ben Schwartz says the aim with the next one is to do something different:

“The exact things we tease at the end of this film is the exact thing I hope we would do for the fourth. There is a beautiful storyline that can be used, and it takes our movie in a whole different place.

That’s what makes these exciting. Every one of these movies almost feels like a different genre. The first one’s kind of a buddy comedy. The second one’s kind of like an adventure, “Indiana Jones” movie.

This one brings the darkness in Shadow, and the next one can have a totally different vibe. It’s just heaven. Also we can get incredible people to play new characters and stuff like that, which is very exciting.”

The franchise’s director Jeff Fowler says he feels there’s still plenty more for them to do: “We can keep growing the world and growing the family of Sonic characters. I feel like we're just hitting our stride.”

“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is in U.S. cinemas now and is opening around much of the world this coming week.
