"Khan," "Social" Join National Film Registry

The Librarian of Congress has released their annual list of the twenty-five films that are being submitted for this year’s selection for preservation by the National Film Registry.
More than 6,700 titles were submitted by the public for consideration for films that are deemed “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant enough to preserve. They also must be at least ten years old.
Making the list this year are the Coen Brothers’ iconic modern western “No Country for Old Men,” Nicholas Meyer’s sci-fi classic “Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan,” David Fincher’s acclaimed “The Social Network,” Gus van Sant’s “My Own Private Idaho,” Martin Brest’s “Beverly Hills Cop,” and Tobe Hooper’s horror “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre”.
This year's selection brings the number of films in the registry to 900. Turner Classic Movies will host a television special on December 18th to screen a selection of films named to the registry this year.
Librarian of Congress' Carla Hayden says in a statement: “Films reflect our nation's history and culture and must be preserved in our national library for generations to come. This is a collective effort in the film community to preserve our cinematic heritage.”
