Two of the biggest pop stars in the world, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, are still friends after going through a rough patch in the past. Due to their feud, Perry and Swift’s friendship has attracted immense attention online from their fans. Here is all the information fans need to know regarding Katy Perry and Taylor Swift’s friendship history.
Exploring Katy Perry and Taylor Swift’s friendship
According to a report by People Magazine, fans of Katy Perry and Taylor Swift first saw them together in 2008. They were attending the MTV VMAs that year. Following the start of a sweet friendship, Perry suggested that she and Swift should write a song together in a tweet she made in 2009.
Swift and Perry's hangouts weren't just limited to award shows, as they also celebrated each other's birthdays. In April 2010, Perry was a guest star on the “Love Story” singer's Fearless tour.
In 2012, the two found themselves caught up in a love triangle. Swift reportedly had a romantic relationship with John Mayer in February of that year. However, following their breakup, Perry and Mayer began dating in August. This led many people to believe that things weren't good between Swift and Perry.
Two years later, fans were shocked when Swift seemingly called out Perry during her interview with Rolling Stone. She talked about the song “Bad Blood” in the conversation. She stated, “I was never sure if we were friends or not.” Swift, at that time, alleged that Perry “tried to sabotage” one of her tours.
In March 2015, the “Lover” hitmaker sat down with The Telegraph but did not discuss anything about her alleged feud with Perry. Since then, their tension continued through cryptic tweets online. In 2016, someone asked Perry about collaborating with Swift in a tweet. She responded that it would only happen if Swift apologized.
Additionally, as per People, following the release of Perry’s song “Swish Swish” in 2017, she was asked by Jimmy Fallon whether it was a diss track. To this, Perry gave a cryptic response. She said, “I think it's a great anthem for people to use whenever someone's trying to bully you.”
After dropping subtle hints about their feud ending in 2019, Perry posted a picture on her Instagram showing a plate of cookies that had the sentence “Peace at last” written on it. Katy Perry also tagged Taylor Swift.
After their reconciliation, Perry featured on Swift's song “You Need to Calm Down”. The “Roar” singer also attended Swift’s Eras tour in February 2024. She also posted a selfie with her on Instagram, solidifying their renewed friendship.
