Hardy On "Venom" Getting A "Logan"-Type Film

The “Venom” movies are what they are, an awkward PG-13 rated superhero feature mixed with an occasionally wacky rom-com about the relationship between a man and his alien parasite.

No-one seems entirely satisfied with the end product – comic fanboys want their dark Spider-Man villain, others want the films to embrace the dark slapstick comedy far more than they do.

Though “Venom: The Last Dance” is being touted as the final outing of Tom Hardy’s Venom on screen, and both he and writer/director Kelly Marcel have made it clear the ‘franchise’ is over, the door isn’t entirely shut.

During press rounds for the film, Hardy shot down rumors he’s in “Spider-Man 4” but did say he’d be happy to return to the role and take on Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, telling ExtraTV this week:

“Venom is just like a gorilla, isn't he? He'll do what he has to do. I think that would be good fun. I think Tom Holland is the best Spider-Man that was ever played, so I'm really fond of him. I think he's a great actor and a great kid. I'm an old man, but I'd like to work with him.”

Now, another possible avenue for Venom’s return has been given the thumbs up by Hardy – a “Logan”-style “Venom” film that’s R-rated and a much darker and grittier tone.

Asked about the possibility by The Wrap and whether he’d be interested, Hardy responded: “Oh yeah!” with Marcel adding: “We're desperate to do that! Desperate!”. Hardy then says:

“We've already got that. We envisioned that on ‘Venom 2.’ We're already there. We're quick as well. It's like we've got four or five movies already on the side, in different tones, with multiple characters. If you ask us to do something. We're not shy, but we have to edit down to what the mission statement is. We're both busy heads. If we say we're going to do something, we mean it.”

“Venom: The Last Dance” is now playing in cinemas.
