A first-look photo at Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein has been revealed.

Guillermo del Toro is working on a new Frankenstein movie, based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, for Netflix. The film stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, while Jacob Elordi is playing Frankenstein's monster.

Vanity Fair has now revealed a first-look photo from the movie, which sees Isaac's character standing with his back toward the camera in his laboratory.

What did Guillermo del Toro say about his Frankenstein movie?

According to Vanity Fair, much of del Toro's Frankenstein, including the moment depicted in the image above, "takes place within the remnants of once-great structures."

Del Toro said, "Gothic romance was born partially out of the fascination with ruins. Sometimes they're more beautiful than the building complete because it's the clash of creation and destruction."

Frankenstein also stars Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, and Ralph Ineson.

"Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelley's classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation," the synopsis reads.

The most recent movie from Del Toro, who has wanted to make a Frankenstein movie for over a decade, was also released through Netflix, as Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (which he co-directed with Mark Gustafson) hit the streaming platform in December 2022. He also created Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, which premiered in October 2022.

An exact release date for Frankenstein has not yet been announced by Netflix, though it will be released at some point in 2025. On Bluesky, del Toro also confirmed that his Frankenstein movie will have a theatrical run.
