Goldberg Responds To “Till” Fat Suit Barb

Whoopi Goldberg has taken a film critic to task on “The View” this morning over a review that makes a mistake about her appearance. Goldberg both produces and stars in “Till,” Chinonye Chukwu’s true-story tale about the 1955 lynching of 14-year-old Emmitt Till in Mississippi for whistling at a white woman and his mother’s efforts to find justice after her son’s death. The film just premiered at the New York Film Festival and stars Goldberg as Alma, the grandmother of the young boy. The reviewer, who hasn’t been identified beyond being a female, referred to Goldberg’s ‘distracting’ fat suit. Thing is, she wasn’t wearing one: “I don’t really care about how you felt about the movie. But you should know that was not a fat suit, that was me. That was me. That was steroids. Remember last year? I assume you don’t watch the show, or you would know that was not a fat suit. It’s OK not be a fan of movie, but you want to leave people’s looks out. Just comment on the acting. And if you have a question, ask somebody. I’m sure you didn’t mean to be demeaning.” Danielle Deadwyler, Jalyn Hall, Frankie Faison and Haley Bennett star in the film, which opens in theatrical release on October 14th.
