Dwayne Johnson has commented on his recent movie project with Martin Scorsese.

It was announced in February 2025 that Johnson will star in a new movie directed by Scorsese. Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt are also set to star in the film.

According to Deadline, Johnson and Blunt brought the idea for the movie to Scorsese and DiCaprio. The four of them then enlisted Nick Bilton to write the script.

The film will focus on a "ruthless Hawaiian crime boss" who is based on a real-life figure.

What did Dwayne Johnson say about working with Martin Scorsese?

Johnson said on X, "Grateful for what's been the most creatively inspiring time of my career – working closely with my friends and of course, the maestro Marty Scorsese. In the 60's, 70's & 80's the mafia controlled New York, Miami, Chicago, Vegas, and a particularly strong hold on the island I was raised – Hawaii. Much more to come. Aloha nui loa."

An official title and release date have not yet been set for the movie, as it has not yet been announced what company will distribute the film.

"The film focuses on a turbulent time on the island paradise when an aspiring mob boss battled rival crime factions to wrest control of the underworld of the Hawaiian islands," Deadline's description of the movie reads. "It was a bloody battle, the kind of terrain Scorsese covered in both Goodfellas and The Departed. In 1960s and 70s Hawaii, this formidable and charismatic mob boss rises to build the islands' most powerful criminal empire, waging a brutal war against mainland corporations and rival syndicates while fighting to preserve his ancestral land. It's based on the untold true story of a man who fought to preserve his homeland through a ruthless quest for absolute power — igniting the last great American mob saga, where the war for cultural survival takes place in the unlikeliest of places: paradise."
