Dune: Prophecy Finale: Who Turned [Spoilers] Into a Weapon?

Dune: Prophecy Finale has aired, and Season 1 ended after raising more questions than it answered. Arguably the most prevalent among them is the identity of the mysterious enemy who turned Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel) into a biological weapon.
In Episode 6, titled “The High-Handed Enemy,” Valya (Emily Watson) sets her plans in motion to dethrone Javicco Corrino and replace him with his daughter. Meanwhile, Tula (Emma Canning), having discovered that Desmond is her son, tries to find a cure for the viral nightmares, to disastrous consequences.
Who planted the thinking machine and the virus in Desmond Hart in Dune: Prophecy?
Dune: Prophecy’s Finale doesn’t explicitly reveal who planted the thinking machine inside Desmond Hart, turning him into a bioweapon. Early in Episode 6, Tula discusses the nightmares with Nazir, a member of the Sisterhood who had extensive medical training. They deduce that it’s a virus that feeds on fear. However, Nazir dies while trying to create an anti-viral cure using prana-bindu.
Towards the end of the episode, Valya has a vivid vision about Desmond after her confrontation with the latter. She partly learns what happened to him, but the important aspects of the mystery elude her. Valya discovers that a hooded figure used a thinking machine to implant smaller thinking machines in Desmond’s eye, transforming him into a carrier of the virus.
As Valya only sees the silhouette of the hooded individual, their identity, motives, and even their sex is unknown. Perhaps, it’s someone who deeply loathes the Sisterhood and wants to destroy it through Desmond. They can potentially be someone that the Order knew during the war against the thinking machines. This person likely seeks vengeance and wants to bring down the Sisterhood as they believe that the Order wronged them.
Alternatively, it can be someone who has a personal vendetta against Tula and Valya and wants to thwart their plans of controlling the Imperium. A surviving Atreides from the massacre Tula committed is a possibility, but that’s unlikely.
Further, while it’s pretty safe to assume that this person knew what Desmond’s potential was, it’s unclear whether they knew the truth about his parentage. With Season 2 officially green-lighted last week, it’s one of the mysteries fans would hope to be addressed in the sophomore chapter.
