Walt Disney Company is reportedly poised to announce a major A.I. initiative that will impact its creative output according to The Wrap.

Their sources indicate a new initiative is said to involve hundreds of people and will focus on its post-production pipeline including visual effects. It also will reportedly involve parks and experiences (not customer-facing).

A studio insider told the outlet Disney is working on its own AI initiatives but not as expansively as suggested by those other sources and it’s too early at present for an announcement.

Speaking at the Canva Create showcase in May, Disney CEO Bob Iger said A.I. is a tool like any other and “Walt Disney himself was a big believer in using technology in the early days to tell better stories.”

This report follows in the wake of Lionsgate striking a deal with A.I. company Runway in September to help with ‘augmenting’ work in the pre- and post-production process on films and television series.

Visual effects artists and other groups that are involved in the post-production process are grouped under the IATSE union which negotiated a new deal earlier in 2024.
