Chris Martin Subtly Addresses Dakota Johnson Breakup Rumors

Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin and actress Dakota Johnson began dating in 2017. Despite both being public figures, they have maintained a high degree of privacy in their relationship. However, rumors have been circulating about a potential split since the summer of 2024, and Martin has finally addressed it, albeit subtly, in a new interview.

Chris Martin named Dakota Johnson as one of his closest friends during a recent interview. The other people he mentioned were his Coldplay bandmates, the group’s manager, and his children.
"Phil [Harvey], Dakota, Jonny [Buckland], Will [Champion], and Guy [Berryman]," Martin listed during an interview with Rolling Stone. "My kids."
In March 2024, People cited one of its sources to report that Martin and Johnson had been engaged for a long time but were in no hurry to tie the knot. Martin seemingly avoided questions about the status of his relationship with Johnson while speaking to Rolling Stone. Instead, he said that he believed that it wasn’t his story to tell. "It is important to say that [romantic love] is such a big factor in everything, even though it feels right to keep it precious and private; I'm not denying its power," he added.
Rumors about the two dating began circulating in late 2017 after Johnson was spotted at a Coldplay concert. Although the couple didn’t say anything about whether they were dating, they were seen together in various places.
In a 2022 interview with Vanity Fair, Johnson candidly spoke about why she and Martin felt they needed to keep their relationship private. “Maybe I think about relationships like that differently because I grew up in my family,” the Madame Web actress said, referring to her upbringing as the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. “We were all cool. Obviously, there were times where it was not cool, but I experienced that, so I don’t want that in my life…It’s better to be kind, and it’s also really nice that everybody actually really loves each other and has each other’s backs.”
Martin has a daughter, Apple, and a son, Moses, with his former wife, actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
