The circulation of rumors about them dates back to 2021 when a source close to A Simple Favor claimed that the lead actresses didn’t like each other. The source conveyed these claims to the podcast, The Celebrity Memoir Book Club. According to StyleCaster, in the podcast, the source stated, “They hated each other.”
As per 9Honey Celebrity, a TikTok video also went viral in the same year from the aforementioned podcast which stated that Lively and Kendrick are “basically enemies and their press tours had to be booked separately.”
In 2018, Kendrick’s remarks about Lively also caught the attention of fans. She described how she had met Lively through her husband Ryan Reynolds and said, “I thought she seemed nice. And little did I know,” and stirred discussions on the internet instantly.
However, Anna Kendrick’s interview with People Magazine from October 2024 debunked some parts of the rumors. When asked how she felt reuniting with Lively, the actress said, “It was lovely. And it does feel a little bit like riding a bike.”
Paul Feig, who directed both A Simple Favor and its sequel, has denounced the feud rumors. A post on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that Lively did not want to walk the carpet because of Kendrick. But, Feig stepped in and replied, “You're wrong,” as he shared the post.
