400+ Top Film Polls Pick 2024's Best Films

Multiple outlets churn out film critics polls at the end of the year in an effort to figure out what were the best movies of the past twelve months.
In an interesting little project, World of Reel has amalgamated multiple polls from mainstream publications, “high-brow curated polls”, cinephile publications and more to come up with “poll of polls” celebrating the films that scored the most mentions in top lists.
Because so many were included, over 400 in total, some of the smaller and more obscure films touted in the hardcore cinephile outlets get pushed to the side. Films more people have seen take precedence over titles that may have only played festivals or scored tiny releases.
The result? The winner, by a clear margin, was Sean Baker’s “Anora” which made it into 158 lists. A close battle ensued for second and third with Coralie Fargeat’s “The Substance” at #2 with 114 mentions, followed by Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers” at #3 with 110 mentions.
Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” (90 mentions), Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist” (89), RaMell Ross’ “Nickel Boys” (81), Jane Schoenbrun’s “I Saw the TV Glow” (77), Payala Kapadia’s “All We Imagine As Light” (70), Edward Berger’s “Conclave” (58) and George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” (57) round out the top ten.
The full list of the top 30 is available here and includes the likes of “Love Lies Bleeding” (#14), “Wicked” (#16), “Nosferatu” (#18), “The Wild Robot” (#19), and “Juror #2” (#25).
