Kim Kardashian Charged in Crypto Fraud Scheme, Charged $1.3 Million

Kim Kardashian might be studying to be a lawyer, but she's also getting into a lot of legal trouble herself! First, she and Scott Disick were charged with running a lottery scam, and now Kim is being accused of not disclosing that she was paid to promote cryptocurrency. She currently is set to pay $1.3 million in fines related to the case. Credit: Jacopo M. Raule/Getty Images For Balenciaga A few weeks ago, TMZ reported that Scott Disick and Kim Kardashian were being sued for running an Instagram lottery with a grand prize of $100,000 and 2 first class tickets to Los Angeles. In addition, the winner would also receive a 3 night stay in Beverly Hills, and be given the opportunity to “shop like Kim Kardashian.” The lottery took place in 2020 by an Australian business called Curated, and is now being called out as a scam. The company is also being sued along with Kim and Scott. The lawsuit claimed that the “winners” accounts were immediately made private after they were announced as winners, and believed to be a set up from the company itself. “Every winner is legitimate, have been awarded their prizes and the company has appropriate paperwork to prove that,” a direct source from Curated revealed. The lawsuit abstained by TMZ alleges that people who signed up for the lottery are " getting invaded by hundreds of advertisers, some of which are soliciting the Plaintiffs with potentially offensive and unwanted content." The initial contest was set up by Scott, however many other celebrities followed along including Kim and the rest of the Kardashian family. The lawsuit is asking for $20 million from each involved, however, the only two listed at the moment are Kim and Scott. "Just a short 20 years ago, Oprah was giving away cars and cash. But today's entertainment tycoons seem to only care about becoming richer and living an even more opulent lifestyle while duping their fans and followers,” the suit asserts. But now Kim is in more trouble, this time with the SEC! According to a new report by The Sun, Kim is going to pay $1.26 million in fees after failing to disclose that she was paid to promote a form of cryptocurrency. The SEC claims that Kimberly was paid $250,000 to promote EMAX tokens on her Instagram page, crypto created by a group called EthereumMax. Kim has not confirmed or denied the allegations. “This case is a reminder that, when celebrities or influencers endorse investment opportunities, including crypto-asset securities, it doesn’t mean that those investment products are right for all investors,” SEC Chairman Gary Gensler said. “We encourage investors to consider an investment’s potential risks and opportunities in light of their own financial goals.” Both Floyd Mayweather and DJ Khaled were fined in 2018 for not disclosing that they were paid to push cryptocurrency to followers as well. Khloé Kardashian Has 'Brain Trauma' From Tristan Thompson Scandals On the new season of The Kardashians, we’re learning a lot more about Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson’s troublesome relationship. We all know that Tristan has cheated on Khloé three times: once right before she gave birth to their daughter, once with Kylie Jenner’s best friend, and once with a woman who gave birth to his third child. And although Tristan hadn’t treated Khloé right, she kept trying to give him a chance since he was the father of her daughter. But right after the news broke that Tristan had fathered a child with another woman, Khloé and Tristan conceived a child via surrogate. The Kardashians star was afraid of the public backlash so she chose to keep the pregnancy a secret until the time that he was born. The premiere episode for season two documented Khloé’s journey after learning about the cheating scandal up until the birth of her second child. The show then hopped back in time to chronological footage to events that took place after season one wrapped. On the latest episode of The Kardashians, Khloé revealed to Kim Kardashian that she refused a marriage proposal from Tristan that had taken place the previous year. “The fact that he proposed and you never told us, and I asked him months later,” Kim recalled. Tristan had approached the mother of four about proposing to her sister. However, Kim never got an update about the possible engagement. When the KKW Beauty founder asked about it, Tristan replied, “‘Oh, I did it months ago. She didn’t tell you guys?’” Khloé went into detail about why she said no to marrying Tristan. “I need to make sure this is a totally different relationship because I want to be proud to say I’m engaged to anyone and that’s why I said I’m not comfortable accepting this right now because I’m not excited to tell my family,” the mother of two explained in a confessional. As hurtful as that probably was for him to hear it was the truth. I’m not ever gonna accept something and give someone false hope.” The episode implied that Tristan popped the question in December of 2020, but a source claimed that it actually happened a couple of months later. They also stated that Khloé did get engaged to her baby daddy. BuzzFeed News reported that the NBA player later proposed to the mother of two in February of 2021, and she said yes. The couple remained engaged until the end of the year when it became public that he had another baby on the way. Although Khloé and Tristan did not announce the engagement, they did drop some hints about it. Most significantly, KoKo began rocking a massive diamond ring around the time of the alleged engagement. They also discussed their desire to get married on The Kardashians. The outlet notes that the 38-year-old called marriage with her baby daddy the “end goal” during season one. During the same episode, Khloé went with her other sister, Kendall Jenner, to get a brain scan. Kendall convinced her sister to take a look inside her head after she learned more about her anxiety. “If we look at your brain – this is your brain right here. You hurt your brain?” the doctor asked Khloé while they were reviewing the scan. “I did. I went through a car windshield when I was 16. Head first and I was knocked out and I actually hit my head a couple times more after that,” the mother-of-two explained. “You worry and you can be anxious and you’ve had trauma. Do you see this diamond? This often will go with emotional trauma,” the doctor explained. Afterwards, he asked why Khloé said she had “past trauma” on her pre-visit questionnaire. “My dad died when I was 19. I was married for five years, and got a divorce,” Khloé said. “My ex-husband – he struggled with drugs. But he had a lot of trauma and then I think I was exposed to a lot of trauma being in that relationship.” She then went into her relationship with Tristan, adding, “My last ex-boyfriend, there was a lot of cheating while I was pregnant and then he just had a baby with somebody else while we were together that I found out. And all these things I find out about from social media myself so it’s pretty traumatic.” “It sounds unbelievable that this is something that one person has gone through,” Khloé said in a confessional. The doctor asked how she handled everything, and the reality star said she leans heavily on her family for support. And although we know Khloé has been through the ringer, hopefully she can put Tristan and his antics behind her! What do you think about the latest episode of The Kardashians?
