Zac Efron is giving fans a throwback they didn't know they needed.

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, the actor, 37, was spotted filming a movie in Los Angeles sporting a fringe haircut with side-swept bangs, resembling his iconic hairstyle worn throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s.

The former teen heartthrob wore the hairdo with a white T-shirt, a grey sweatshirt, light grey sweatpants, and flip-flops.

While it is unclear what project the actor was filming, he signed on to star in the upcoming Jody Hill-directed movie Famous earlier this summer.

According to Deadline, Efron will star alongside Phoebe Dynevor and play the dual roles of "overzealous fan" Lance Dunkquist and "Hollywood heartthrob" James Jansen. It is based on the Blake Crouch novel of the same name.

"Lance Dunkquist has the face of a movie star. Not just any movie star - Lance has been mistaken for Hollywood star James Jansen 228 times. And now Lance is about to go to LA to make his dream come true. No matter what it takes," a synopsis explains.

The hairstyle worn by Efron in the new photo is one he spotted during projects like 2008's High School Musical 3: Senior Year and 2009's 17 Again.

After being awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last December, the movie star spoke with PEOPLE about how his parents, Starla Baskett and David Efron, were instrumental in his early success.

"My mom and dad, they're the reason I'm here today. They believed in me when I don't know how they did. It must've been difficult to drive me back and forth to auditions when I was 15, three hours from the Arroyo Grande out here, just to have such a small shot," he told PEOPLE at the time.
