A woman explained on Reddit that her friend "ignored" her after she gave her a $400 cash wedding gift
A woman is reflecting on how her friendship with her best friend ended over a wedding gift.
In a post on Reddit's "Wedding Shaming" forum, the woman explained how Diane, a close friend from college, "ghosted" her after she attended her wedding. She and her partner had gifted the bride and groom $400, placing the envelope of cash with the rest of the cards at her reception.
"Almost immediately after the wedding, Diane stopped responding to my text messages and ignored me in the group chat," the poster wrote.
Six months later, the pair had a complete "blow up." During their argument, Diane finally came clean about why she had shut out her friend from her life.
"She finally revealed that she was mad at me for not giving her a wedding gift," the woman said. "So she lost the wedding card, assumed I didn't give one and decided to cut me because of it."
Although Diane's wedding was a few years ago, the poster says she is thinking about the fall of their friendship now because she ran into her over the weekend at a mutual friend's event celebrating their upcoming wedding.
"Diane literally arrived wearing a white dress and white blazer," she wrote. "Honestly, I'm so glad she's out of my life and I feel bad for how she's going to behave at this wedding in the future if she can't even stay away from white."

Reddit users in the comments section think it was greedy for Diane to ditch a best friend over a wedding gift. Others felt like the poster should have given Diane heads up that she left her a cash gift because it could have been stolen.
"It's appalling that someone would cut off a close friend over a gift (or perceived lack of one), which I think goes to show that this person was not a true friend," one person wrote in part, with another adding, "Always write a check. Most families have a sticky finger relative."

The poster clarified in a comment that Diane didn't seem to care when she told her that she had actually left her several hundred dollars, and noted that the envelope box was unattended at several points of the wedding.
"I have no idea if any other cards went missing, but I don't really care at this point," she wrote. "It cost me $400 to know who she really is and I'm fine with that."
