SPOOKY season is upon us and it’s the ideal time to get your witch on.
The shops are full of frightfully fab fashion looks at the mo.
But if you haven’t picked the ideal outfit to wear this Halloween yet, we’ve brewed up the perfect look.
My work bestie Katy and I are on a mission to scour the supermarkets and high street stores to find the right outfits for every occasion – for every size.
Both of us regularly turn up in the office in almost identical looks – whether floral mini dresses and chunky boots or matching overnight curls – with colleagues often ribbing us for being clothes clones.
I’m a 44-year-old size 10 with a mum tum that I’m super self-conscious about.
Meanwhile Katy, 33, is a self confessed ‘booby’ size 18 with curves to die for.
In a bid to offer up some size-inclusive inspiration for the over 30s, we’re trying the same looks in our different sizes to see what works – and whether stores really offer something ‘for everybody‘.
While we were shooting our latest fall haul from high street favourite New Look we happened across a sure-fire chiffon dream dress that is superb for the spooky season.
This was the dress that made us want to try New Look on for size. It’s got everything going for it – it’s in the beautiful burgandy colour of the season, it’s leopard print and it looks way more expensive than its £35.99 pricetag.
We were both praying that it would look good on – and our prayers were answered.
This is unbelievably flattering in both sizes.
It’s streamlined fit somehow made me look much much taller than I am while still giving me enough of a curvy shape to feel sexy.
The long, fluted sleeves are so sophisticated while the small peephole back gives it a bit of a party look without being over the top.
Meanwhile, it hugged Katy in all the right places and accentuated her natural, bombshell curves.
And we both felt like spooky goddesses without being too gothy. In fact it gave Practical Magic vibes, making us feel like Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman in the spooky 90s comic fantasy classic.
You could easily pair this with heels and chunky jewellery for a romantic Halloween dinner or switch for boots or trainers and a comfy jacket for cosy coffee with the girls. It would even work for the office.
I am not a real witch but it doesn’t take magical powers to work out this is going to be one of the most versatile and well-worn pieces in both our wardrobes this season.
