"You look out the window and there was the object of your desire right there," host Henry Louis Gates Jr. said of her family's proximity

Joy Behar is discovering that her relatives were a lot closer than she thought!

In PEOPLE's exclusive first look at the Jan. 14 episode of Finding My Roots, The View co-host, 82, learns that her grandfathers from both her paternal and maternal sides lived a stone's throw away from each other in a small Italian village.

When host Henry Louis Gates Jr. identifies her great grandparents, Saverio and Maria Rosa, Behar admits that the names are unfamiliar. As the two continue to climb "another branch" of her family tree, Gates points out a glaring detail to Behar.

"Do you see where the family was living when your grandfather was born?" he asks. After Behar recites, "Via Ferrari 15," he asks her to flip the page for her to identify the street where her grandfather was born.

"Obviously the houses have been rebuilt since your grandfather's side," Gates explains as she observes photographs. "But the science of the structures and the surrounding landscape are all likely very similar."

"What they were living across the street?" Behar asks in shock. "I mean, it's almost incestuous what we're talking about here."

"You look out the window and there was the object of your desire right there," Gates adds.
