Video Shows Fireworks Exploding as Fire Destroys 2 Family Homes Ahead of the Holidays: 'Lost Everything'

Fireworks dramatically filled the sky at the scene of a Massachusetts house fire in which two homes were destroyed and two families "lost everything."
The Oakham Fire Department shared a release on Facebook which stated that they had to fight "icy conditions" as they sought to control the blaze which started around 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 23. They were also up against "exploding fireworks and venting propane tanks," while trying to extinguish the fire alongside officers from the nearby Rutland Fire Department.

Spencer Fire Department shared a post that revealed the extent of the damage. "Two of our families from town lost everything tonight and a third had damage to their home," they posted to Facebook, adding that the icy conditions at the scene had been "frigid."
"The main home was gone when we pulled up and tried to save the other two," the statement added.
Both homes were empty when the blaze started and nobody was injured, CBS News reported. However, Spencer Fire Chief Robert Parsons said that two firefighters fell through the ice while trying to get water from nearby Thompson Pond because there are no hydrants in the area,. They were unhurt, according to the outlet.

A TikTok video shared by CBS affiliate WBZ shows water jets attempting to extinguish the fire while fireworks explode in the sky above the properties. Neighbors can be heard exclaiming "Oh my God, what's happening?" on the video. "We're going to talk about this one for a while!" another says.
Another neighbor told WBZ that he "heard explosions" and his house "shook."
CBS reported that temperatures in the area were "well below freezing" on Sunday. They added that the state Department of Fire Services responded to the scene to help local firefighters in the bitter cold. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
PEOPLE contacted Spencer Fire Department for an update but did not immediately receive a reply.
