Tom Cruise is stuntin' on 'em in the new trailer for Mission: Impossible 8, which is now officially called The Final Reckoning. (It is a direct sequel, but maybe Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning — Part Two just didn't have enough of a ring to it.) In the action-packed preview, Cruise is once again defying death as Ethan Hunt. He's scuba diving in water, running around on the earth, hanging onto planes in the air … if you count gunfire as fire, he's got every element covered stunt-wise. Now, is the title a hint that this will be Hunt's last mission in the franchise? We don't know for sure yet, but the stakes definitely seem finale-worthy, given that he's being told that he's responsible for the fate of "every living soul" on the planet.

Dead Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie is picking up right where we left off, with Hunt searching for the submarine that is carrying his dangerous AI foe. The returning cast is stacked — we've got Esai Morales, Angela Bassett, Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, Indira Varma, Pom Klementieff, Ving Rhames, Vanessa Kirby, Shea Whigham, Henry Czerny, Greg Tarzan Davis, and Mariela Garriga — but there are also multiple new faces, including Hannah Waddingham and Nick Offerman, among others. The Final Reckoning is set to release on May 23, 2025. Maybe by then we'll know just how final Paramount wants it to be for the franchise.
