"Ted Lasso" Creator Says They're Waiting on Jason Sudeikis' 'Decision' About Season 4: 'We're All Down with It'

Bill Lawrence, who created the Apple TV+ comedy with Sudeikis, weighed in on whether there's a future for the show
The future of Ted Lasso lies squarely in Jason Sudeikis' hands.
It's been almost a year and a half since the hit Apple TV+ comedy aired its third season – which Sudeikis, who created and led the show, confirmed would conclude the series – but it's still a never say never situation.
Bill Lawrence, who created the show with Sudeikis, 48, told Collider on Aug. 7 that by nature of how beloved the show was by everyone who worked on it, "groupthink sometimes happens," and rumors start to spread that a fourth season could be in the works.
He said the answer to whether or not that's the case is simple: "Whatever Jason feels like doing and whatever his decision is, we're all down with it."

Lawrence pointed out the sacrifices the show requires of Sudeikis, referencing his two kids with ex Olivia Wilde. He said, "Not only is he the star, he's the head writer, and he's also the dude whose life just has to be completely overhauled and moved to a foreign country with young children."
"It's a big deal," he continued of the decision to make another season. "So, as a fan, if someone's like, 'Oh, it's gonna happen again,' I'll go nuts. As a partner, I'm down for whatever he wants to do."
Prior to the release of season 3 in March 2023, Sudeikis told Deadline that it was "the end of this story we wanted to tell," but he didn't rule out the potential for spinoffs.
"I think that we've set the table for all sorts of folks...to get to watch the further telling of these stories."
He also admitted that he saw the desire for more seasons as "flattery for what all of us that were working on the show [had] tried to do."
"It's really kind of folks to even consider that because you never know what's gonna happen you make things," he told the outlet. "The fact that people want more, even if it's a different avenue, is lovely."
While the future remains up in the air, in May, Hannah Waddingham told PEOPLE where she thinks her character Rebecca Welton would be right now.
"My first gut instinct is that she is single and adjusting the club again and that her shoulders have finally dropped," she said, reflecting on the changes that AFC Richmond faced in Ted Lasso's final season when the titular character decided to go home and coach his son Henry's soccer team.
