Sebastian Stan might have one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood, but it's not immune to a little constructive criticism from Mom!

The A Different Man star, 42, opened up about some advice his mother Georgeta Orlovschi gave him in a chat with Sing Sing star Colman Domingo, for The A24 Podcast's most recent episode that aired Wednesday, Sept. 25.

"I love [my mom]. But here's what she said to me recently when she came to visit me, and she's about to leave. I'm like, 'Oh, yeah, everything's great. Thank you so much.' And she goes, 'I have to tell you something, but don't get upset,' " Stan recalled.

Admitting he was "already in an anxious place" at the time, the Thunderbolts*actor continued, "And she goes, 'I know you're an actor and everything, but maybe you can express a little less because ... I can see these lines.' "

He went on to tell Domingo, 54, that Orlovschi urged her son to " 'get some moisturizer.' "

"She was like, 'Be a little less intense with your face.' I'm like, "Mom!' " Stan said.

The conversation came about as Domingo praised Stan's performance in A Different Man. Stan plays Edward, an aspiring actor who undergoes facial-reconstruction surgery and subsequently grows obsessed with Oswald (Adam Pearson), another man with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1).

" ... You have this thing. Your face changes a lot," Domingo said. "And I'm going to say this because I know that mine does the same thing, You can look absolutely handsome, leading man, gorgeous in one frame and absolutely f---ing hideous in the next."

"It's a gift, man," the Oscar nominee continued. "I think it's something inside you that's changing. There's something that is, you're bringing out a beast. The beast, the hideous nature of humanity. And you see it all over your face."

In a recent interview with PEOPLE surrounding A Different Man, Stan said Pearson's life experience as a person who lives with neurofibromatosis proved "incredible" in developing his character Edward.

Pearson, who also previously appeared in director Aaron Schimberg's 2019 movie Chained for Life, told PEOPLE he and Stan "had really frank, honest conversations" about their upbringings and life experiences over Zoom before production on the A24 drama started in 2022.

"Disfigurement and disability is unique in terms of you don't get it until you get it. So I have to find parallels to help so I can get [someone's] hooks into this and sort of process it differently," said the British actor, 39. "And I always say that the two ways to lose your social anonymity in a society in 2024 are to either have some kind of disagreement or disability or to become a celebrity."

"And so while [Stan] might not know the level of invasiveness, I feel with kind of pointing, stares and camera phones, he absolutely gets it from the other angle," added Pearson.

A Different Man is in theaters now.
