Fans were excited after Gellar tagged husband Freddie Prinze Jr. and director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson from the horror set
Sarah Michelle Gellar is teasing fans of two of her most popular films.
The actress, 47, posted a photo to Instagram Wednesday, Nov. 27 of a director's chair that had I Know What You Did Last Summerprinted on the back, sparking fan speculation that she might be in the upcoming reboot after all.
In the photo caption, Gellar tagged husband Freddie Prinze Jr. and I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. She cheekily wrote "Scooby Doo 3 coming soon…" and added a crying laughing emoji, fueling speculation that a third Scooby Doo movie could also be on the way.
Gellar posted the same photo of the director's chair to her Instagram Stories, captioning it "Visiting my man @realfreddieprinze and my girl @jennkaytin."
Gellar and Prinze Jr. worked together in the original 1997 IKWYDLS, in which she played Helen Shivers and he played Ray Bronson.
While Gellar's beauty queen character Helen Shivers was murdered in the slasher film, director Robinson, 36, added fuel to the fire by reposting Gellar's story, adding, "before you dm me she refuses to be not dead."
Whether or not Gellar will appear in the 2025 sequel is unknown, but Prinze Jr. will reprise his role in the film, alongside Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Haur-King, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols and Gabbriette.
Shivers went down in horror history for her iconic chase with her killer before her demise in the 1997 horror film directed by Jim Gillespie. Prinze Jr.'s Bronson, the boyfriend of Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and friend of Shivers, managed to survive.
"I am dead," Gellar told PEOPLE in October when asked if she would be in the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot. However, she said she might have an "unofficial" role in the project, with both her husband starring in it and her friend Robinson directing.
"My best friend [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity," Gellar said. "So I'm always the one telling her, 'Well, that would happen, or that wouldn't happen with those characters,' so I do have kind of an unofficial job title."

Prinze Jr. and Gellar also starred together in the 2002 Scooby-Doo film, with Gellar playing the danger-prone Daphne Blake and Prinze Jr. playing the lead mystery-solver Fred Jones. The director of the 2002 film and its 2004 sequel, Raja Gosnell, chose Gellar and Prinze because he wanted a real-life couple to play the characters.
The I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot is expected to hit theaters in 2025.
