At just two years old, the Minnesota feline (and his fluffy, sprawling tail) made history on Wednesday, March 26, when Guinness World Records (GWR) announced that he officially has the longest tail on a living domestic cat.
The silver Maine Coon, whose full name is Mr. Pugsley Addams — yes, after The Addams Family character — has a tail that measures 18.5 inches. And, according to his owner, Amanda Cameron, it's always been noticeably long, even catching the attention of the adventurous feline's veterinarian during the pet's first appointment.

Pugsley with one of his owners"The first time I took him to the vet," the owner recalls to GWR, "he walked in and said, 'That is a REALLY long tail.' And I looked at it, really looked at it, and I thought … 'Yeah … it kind of is, isn't it?'"

Six months later, the vet officially measured it — and learned that Pugsley's tail was not only impressively long but also longer than the then-current GWR titleholder.
"So I told my kids, and of course, their first reaction was to see if there was a current Guinness World Records title for that," Cameron told GWR. "And what do you know — there was, and to our shock, Pugsley beat it!"

Pugsley has two human pals, Cameron's children Finley and Josephine, plus three four-legged siblings: sisters Winnie and Dutchess and brother Gomez — who, like the GWR holder, was named after a member of the Addams Family.
Gomez is "violently affectionate and romantic," while Pugsley is a curious troublemaker. The Maine Coon is "very creative when it comes to new ways he can be mischievous," Cameron told GWR. "And yet, he is kind and caring and loves his momma."

Pugsley with his siblingsThe bright-eyed, bushy-tailed kitty can also sit on command and play a mean game of fetch, especially when he's supposed to be getting ready for bed, his owner says. He's perhaps the most expressive of the family's pets, thanks to his record-breaking tail.
Whether flicking it to and fro or letting it dangle delicately as he lounges in a cat tree, Pugsley often becomes the center of attention because of his tail.
"Everybody always wants to meet him and falls in love with his calm demeanor," Cameron told GWR of the feline. And when the Minnesota family hits the town, people "call him a 'local celebrity,'" she adds.
"He is pretty level-headed, even in new situations that might be scary for some cats," the owner says of the cat. "He is super soft and is always purring. He's just a great little guy to be around."

As for Pugsley's opinion of his lengthy appendage, Cameron says, "I definitely think he is aware of his long tail. It does get in the way, especially when he is excited. It is standing straight up when I'm trying to feed him, and so it's in my face."
