THIS is the shocking moment a cop desperately clings onto a thug's speeding car before bravely pulling out the key and forcing the driver to crash.

Reece Wheeler, 24, was sentenced to four years in prison after he drove at high speed with the cop clinging on to his door for more than 700 metres.

While on proactive duty in Luton, ‘PC R’ and his colleagues spotted a vehicle they had suspected was involved in drug dealing.

Approaching the stationary car on foot, ‘PC R’ attempted to detain the driver.

However, the vehicle sped off at such a speed that the officer had no option but to cling to the car and was carried more than 700 metres.

Intent on stopping the car, ‘PC R’ managed to remove the keys and engage the steering lock while the vehicle was moving at speeds of up to 60mph, causing it to lose speed and crash.

The officer bravely kept hold of the suspect and managed to arrest him on his own until backup arrived.

His bravery in apprehending a dangerous offender, who had no regard for the officer’s safety, led to the suspect’s arrest as well as the seizure of weapons, class A drugs and recovery of a stolen vehicle.

At an awards ceremony in the summer, ‘PC R’ was honoured by presenting him with the PC Jon Henry Shield.

The prestigious award was presented in memory of PC 5584 Jon Henry who was murdered in the line of duty.

Last week, Reece Wheeler, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Luton Crown Court to four years in prison, after he was found guilty of GBH without intent, handling stolen goods and dangerous driving.

He also received a five-year driving ban.
