The second incarnation of Mina Starsiak Hawk's Two Chicks District Co. store is closing, seven months after it opened.

After making the difficult decision to shutter her original shop in Indianapolis last year, the Good Bones star launched its new location in Noblesville, Ind. in March.

However, she told the Indianapolis Star that the brick-and-mortar store simply wasn't profitable enough to stay in business after its short-term lease was up.

"By the time it came to make a decision to stay, I just couldn't... we were losing money," she said.

The HGTV star added, "It was so amazing, the neighborhood and the people, and I hate that the business side just isn't there to support it, but being in a very urban spot, unfortunately it has to be a profitable venture."

Starsiak Hawk also announced the news on Two Chicks' social media accounts on Thursday, Sept. 26, noting that the business would continue to operate online and expressing excitement for its upcoming holiday collection.

In December 2023, Mina told PEOPLE that she'd chosen the location after she was contacted by a man from Noblesville. The city is about 30 miles north of Indianapolis, where she lives with husband Steve Hawk and their two kids, 6-year-old Jack and 4-year-old Charlie.

"He has businesses there, and he was like, 'What can we do to get you to Noblesville?'" she said. "Is there a show to base out of here?"

"I mean, [Good Bones] was a giant commercial for Indianapolis, which was amazing," added Mina, who launched her home renovation business Two Chicks and a Hammer with her mom, Karen E. Laine, there in 2007.

"I guess his thought was having Two Chicks and a Hammer in the neighborhood is good for the businesses," she adds.

Mina announced her plans to close the original Two Chicks District Co. in October 2023, which was the same month Good Bonesended it's original eight-season run.

It was a "super emotional" decision for both her and Steve, she said at the time.

"When I first came home and told him this is what I want to do, he said, 'Absolutely not. You're not closing the store. You love the store. It's your passion,'" she said. "I was like, 'It's not my passion anymore. It's not bringing anyone joy. It's not doing any of the things that I wanted it to do, so we're not doing it anymore.'"

Mina explained that running the store became "super challenging," because even though it drew tourists from around the globe, they weren't necessarily making big purchases.

"You have these amazing people that are traveling to the store and say, 'We wanted to come, we wanted to see it. We want to support you.' And then they buy a $2 keychain," she said.

Mina estimated that at least 85 percent of the stores' visitors weren't from Indiana and were visiting the store due to the popularity of Good Bones

It was "self-sustaining", she said of the shop, which opened in 2020, but it was "not in a great place."

Mina and Karen returned to HGTV with a limited series spinoff of Good Bones in August. The three-episode run documented Mina and Steve renovating a lake house for their family in Indiana, while Karen worked on a separate project: a retirement bungalow for herself in North Carolina. The mother-daughter duo, who had a falling out toward the end of the show's original run, did not cross paths on the series.
