A married couple with kids has put their housemate in an awkward situation after they requested that he leave the house for a week in order for them to have a "staycation" without him there.

The 30-year-old man chronicled the couple's "staycation" request — a vacation at home during which they can relax as a pair without their kids or roommate around — on Reddit's popular "Am I the A------" forum.

"We are all on the lease and this is their first time living on their own," the man wrote in the March 20 post. "They want me to leave for a full week and stay at their parents' house so they can have a staycation, and enjoy being a married couple living together for the first time without family."

"Their kids would be with their grandparents," he continued. "I think it's unreasonable since I pay for rent, but they tell me I'm being selfish. I also don't really know their parents, and it makes me uncomfortable."

Contemplating how he should respond in situations like these, the man asked Redditors in the forum, "Am I the a------ for not leaving the house for a week that I rent so my roommates can have a staycation?"

Within hours, his question netted hundreds of responses, with many people telling him he's "NTA [not the a------]" for wanting to decline their request.

"Absolutely wild! Like, just the audacity of even asking is astounding," one person commented in disbelief. "No, if you want to spend a week together without anybody else, you're going to go to rent a place to stay. You're not even going to suggest that somebody who pays to live somewhere leave for a week so you can bang in every room."

"The craziest thing out of all of this is assuming that [the roommate] will go stay with the couple's parents, who he has never even met. Like that's so bizarre and random," another Redditor wrote. "Can you imagine being married and calling your mom to say, 'Hey we want to pretend we have our own house with no roommates so we're gonna send our roommate to your place for a week, cool?' "

Married people also chimed in with their reactions to the couple's request.

"When I was first married we had a roommate. I would never ever have thought that it would be acceptable to ask him to leave his space for any reason," a reader reacted, reassuring the original poster. "We got plenty of alone time when he was out for his own reasons."
