'Maestro' Makeup Artist Responds to Backlash Over Bradley Cooper's Prosthetic Nose

The makeup artist behind Bradley Cooper‘s prosthetic nose in Maestro is speaking out following all of the backlash.

Last month, Netflix debuted the first trailer for the upcoming biopic of the legendary composer, conductor, and pianist Leonard Bernstein, directed by and starring the 48-year-old actor.

After the trailer was released, many voiced complaints about the large nose prosthetic worn by Bradley, complaining that it represented a stereotypical portrayal of a Jewish person.

While promoting the movie at the 2023 Venice Film Festival, the movie’s makeup artist Kazu Hiro addressed the backlash.

“I wanted to portray Lenny as real as possible,” Kazu told the press, according to Deadline. “He’s photogenic and a great person. We wanted to respect and love that look. We did several different tests. That was our [only] intention.”

Kazu has won the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling for the biographical films Darkest Hour and Bombshell.

Leonard’s children also addressed the backlash.
