Since Kendrick Lamar revealed he'd be headlining the Super Bowl, the hip-hop internet has been concerned for Drake and Lil Wayne. The Drake reasons should be obvious by now, but as for Wayne, many thought he'd be a shoo-in for a Super Bowl in his home city of New Orleans. Even Wayne himself did — and losing the gig to Kendrick "broke" him, he shared on social media. "That hurt. It hurt a lot," he said in an Instagram Reel. "I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown, and for just automatically mentally putting myself in that position like somebody told me that was my position." Wayne went on to thank fans for standing up for him online in recent days. "It made me feel like shit, not getting this opportunity, and when I felt like shit, you guys reminded me that I ain't shit without y'all," he said.

Lamar shared on September 8 that he would be headlining the 2025 Super Bowl, delivering the news in a clip of him throwing footballs on a JUGS machine. Not only would the NFL get one of the biggest stars of the year — K.Dot got to deliver yet another blow to Drake, after the latter rapped he was "big as the Super Bowl" on last year's "First Person Shooter." But since the news, rappers like Cam'ron and Juvenile said Wayne should've gotten the gig, along with his Young Money allies like Nicki Minaj and Birdman. Even Drake posted! Meanwhile, an unbothered Kendrick surprise-dropped a new song during September 11's VMAs, and he might finally be bored of dissing Drake. Hey, there's still time to record a new Wayne collab before February.
