Kim Kardashian Reacts to Call for Menendez Brothers' Resentencing

Kim Kardashian is thanking Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón after he officially recommendedErik and Lyle Menéndez be resentenced due to new evidence (and amid renewed public interest) in their murder convictions.
"The Menendez brothers were granted a second chance at life and will wake up tomorrow finally eligible for a parole hearing. They could be released as early as 6 months," Kardashian, 44, wrote via her Instagram Story on Thursday, October 24. "Thank you, George Gascón for revisiting the Menendez brothers' case and righting a significant wrong. Your commitment to truth and fairness is commendable."
She continued, "To the brothers' family, friends, and millions who have been vocal supporters — your voices were heard. The media's focus, especially on the heels of Ryan Murphy's TV show, helped expose the abuse and injustices in their case. Society's understanding of child abuse has evolved, and social media empowers us to question the system in place. This case highlights the importance of challenging decisions and seeking truth, even when guilt is not in question."
Noting that she believes in the "justice system's ability to evolve," Kardashian added that she is "grateful for a society where we can challenge decisions and seek justice."
Menendez Brothers Get Court Hearing as D.A. Weighs Evidence of Abuse
She concluded: "Never stop questioning."
Gascón announced the recommendation to have the Menéndez brothers' sentences reduced during a live press conference on Thursday afternoon. Gascón explained that if his recommendation is accepted, both would be "eligible for parole immediately" since they were under 26 years old when the crime occurred.
"They have been in prison for nearly 35 years. I believe that they have paid their debt to society," he said, adding that they are "safe to be integrated into society."
The suggestion is now making its way to a judge, who will have his suggestion go before the Board of Parole Hearings. Erik, 53, and Lyle, 56, would either have to serve the remaining balance of the new sentence or they could be eligible for parole.
Ryan Murphy Has No Interest in Meeting Menendez Bros After 'Monsters' Drama
Following the September releases of Netflix's limited series Monsters and documentary The Menéndez Brothers, the siblings' story reentered the spotlight. The pair were convicted of murdering their parents, José and Kitty Menéndez, in their Beverly Hills, California, home in 1989 when Erik and Lyle were 18 and 21, respectively. They were ultimately sentenced to life in prison without parole in 1996.
Kardashian met with the Menéndez brothers in prison last month after the premiere of Monsters with series star Cooper Koch, who portrays Erik.
Last week, the Kardashians star addressed the brothers' potential prison release, telling Variety, "I think that they never got a fair second trial and I feel like ever since, for me, watching Ryan Murphy's Monsters show it really opened up and showed me so much about abuse. Imagine if no one believed you."
