Jon M. Chu Called Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo 'Hardcore' After They Revealed Their Matching "Wicked "Tattoos

Both 'Wicked' leads revealed what specific tattoos they received in dedication to their beloved characters, Elphaba and Glinda

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are linked "For Good."

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the Wicked stars spoke with SiriusXM Hits 1 LA with Tony Fly and Symon's Symon about the highly anticipated movie musical and shared how they're keeping the memory of the movie "permanent."  

The two revealed they have several matching tattoos to commemorate their time on the production. When asked what they are, Grande, 31, who plays Glinda, said there are some they can share, but "some are secret."

Erivo, 37, who plays Elphaba, walked Symon through their tattoos. "We have 'For Good' on our palms," she said, referencing the musical's emotional duet between the show's leads and unlikely friends.

"We have our poppies," Grande added. Their matching poppies are likely a reference to the 1939 MGM film, The Wizard of Oz. In the 1939 film, Dorothy (Judy Garland) falls asleep in the field of poppies before she meets the Wizard. 

The actresses first revealed the poppies and "For Good" ink earlier this year when they posted Instagram Stories of both tattoos.

"I have my hat and my broom," revealed Erivo.

Grande continued, "I have Glinda from the 1901 original L. Frank Baum book." Baum's first book in the Oz series was The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, illustrated by W. W. Denslow. 

Erivo added that she has a tattoo of Elphaba's line, "Maybe some of us are just different." 

Grande then recalled that "there was a moment" when they were getting the permanent ink, where she said, 'Hope they like it.' " Erivo chimed in, adding, "It is what it is. It's here."

"It's on us," Grande said, noting that the film's director, Jon M. Chu called them "hardcore" and "intense" for getting multiple Wicked tattoos.

"He was like, 'We're not even done yet,' " Grande recalled of his reaction. "I was like, 'Yeah. Should we not be doing this?' "

During their conversation with Symon, they also spoke about the friendship they formed and how FaceTime helped maintain their bond since wrapping production.

Erivo called their five-hour FaceTime conversations "ridiculous." Grande added that she'll call "to keep her company." Erivo clarified that Grande will call when she's doing her nails. "Naturally, and that's like a five-hour situation," she joked.

"She sometimes, I think, wants to hang up, and I just keep going and going and going," Grande added. But Erivo refuted her claim, "No. I'm like, 'Keep going,' " adding, "We find things to keep talking about for the five hours and it's lovely 'cause my brain is not on what's going on, so I'm just chatting."

"It's the best," Grande remarked.
