Jennifer Lopez Cancels Upcoming Media Appearances to 'Focus' on L.A. Fire Relief: 'Difficult Time' (Source)

The 'Unstoppable' actress was scheduled to appear on several shows next week in New York City, including 'Today' and 'The Tonight Show'

Jennifer Lopez is adjusting her plans as the Los Angeles wildfires continue to rage on.

A source close to the Unstoppableactress tells PEOPLE that all of her upcoming media appearances that were scheduled for next week have been canceled.

"It's important to her to focus on supporting the community of Los Angeles during this very difficult time," the insider says.

Lopez, 55, was scheduled to appear on several shows in New York City, including the Today show, The View, Live with Kelly and Mark and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The news comes three days after the Los Angeles premiere of Lopez's new movie Unstoppable was canceled due to fire and wind activity in the city.

The event at the DGA Theater was canceled "in light of today's safety concerns around heightened wind activity and fire outbreaks in Los Angeles," a rep for the movie's distributor, Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement to PEOPLE on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

"As much as we were looking forward to celebrating this wonderful and inspiring film with you, safety is our first priority," the statement continued. "Thank you for your understanding and please stay safe."

Tuesday's TCL Chinese Theatre premiere of Universal Pictures' horror movie Wolf Man, starring Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, was also among the events canceled, as well as the premiere of the Pamela Anderson-led drama The Last Showgirl.

Hollywood has further responded to the fire emergency by postponing the Critics Choice Awards from Jan. 12 to 26, and pushing the Academy Award nominations announcement from Jan. 17 to 19. Earlier this week, the SAG Awards also canceled its live, in-person nominations announcement.

Fast-growing wildfires throughout L.A., exacerbated by severe winds and dry vegetation, started on Tuesday and soon sent tens of thousands of residents scrambling for safety from the encroaching flames and smoke.

The blazes have spread quickly in different parts of the city, including the Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Altadena and the Hollywood Hills. Information is still evolving about the scale of the destruction and when the fires will start to be contained.

As of Thursday, there have been at least 10 fire-related deaths in the L.A. area, the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner said.

Per CNN, authorities have "received notification" for these deaths. The medical examiner did not release the names of those who have died since "all cases are pending identification and legal next of kin notification."
