THE cherry on top of any cinema visit is getting to indulge in the tasty food there.

Whether you’re a popcorn purist, ice-cream fan or even like to push the boat out some hot nachos – there’s loads to choose from.

But one former cinema worker has spoken out about the snacks available to buy and warned punters against certain options.

Taking to Reddit, the ex-worker said: “I worked in a cinema when I was a teen and I would now never ever get any food that's not pre packaged or uncovered food.”

So, things like nacho toppings are a no-no for starters.

The Reddit user claimed in their cinema things like salsa was “left out barely covered for fruit flies to go all over and not refrigerated the entire day either.”

They added: “Old popcorn is bagged up and reheated for the next day as well.”

But the food woes don’t end there, unfortunatley.

According to the former worker, who didn’t specify what cinema they were employed by, claimed that other workers would touch food without gloves.

So, what would they recommend you nibble on next time your watch a flick?

“[The] only thing I would get is the popcorn or chocolate packs and ice-cream tubs,” they said.

After sharing their insight into the world of cinema grub, another former employee commented on the post, adding they would also avoid ordering nacho cheese.

“When I worked for a cinema chain in 2008-2009 the cheese sauce came in a big can,” they said.

“We had to decant it into tubs and water it down then microwave it. That is what gave it the more runny consistency to be ladled over the nachos.”

And someone else said they’d never get a pick ‘n’ mix.

“They wrote: “The things I saw kids do before putting their hands all over it, I feel sick just thinking about it.”

Are you allowed to bring your own food to the cinema?

From a business perspective, of course cinemas would prefer for people not to bring their own food and drink in.

Selling food creates profit for them, and they don’t want their sales to be affected.

However, on the whole they will turn a blind eye to people sneaking in their own refreshments.

This is as long as there is no alcohol or hot food.

inema bosses don’t like people taking hot food in to cinemas as they can be spilled on to the floor or seats, meaning customers’ clothing could be stained by a rogue dollop of sauce or oil.

Like all establishments, legally cinemas are restricted in what alcohol they can serve – if any – so people taking in their own booze could put them in breach of their licence.

Furthermore, a drunk customer could disrupt other people’s enjoyment of the film, or cause a mess that their staff would need to clean up.

The 'right' way to store food

1. Use Airtight Containers

This helps to prevent exposure to air which can cause your food to go off. A glass container can help to be more hygienic and a sustainable option.

2. Label Everything

By labelling your food it helps to keep track of expiry dates and avoid food waste.

3. Store Like Items Together

This makes it easier to find what you are looking for. Use fridge dividers or reusabale bags to help section your fridge.

4. Use the Fridge and Freezer Wisely

Keep raw meat on the bottom shelf to avoid contamination, and use the freezer for longer-term storage.

5. Rotate Your Stock

Place newer items at the back and bring the older ones forward. This will mean you will be able to notice the foods that need eating first.
