And while we’d all like to think bring a dog home is easy it isn’t and veterinarian Amir reveals some breeds are harder than others.

The expert shared a list of five dog breeds he wouldn’t recommend, adding: “The last one is controversial !! But I think its worth a mention on this list.”

The first breed that made it onto the shortlist was the Dogo Argentina breed – a large dog of the mastiff type.

It was bred for hunting which means it needs lots of training and plenty of time outside to run off energy – not ideal for a first time owner.

Next up was the German Shepherd another large pup originally bred for herding sheep.

Again these dogs need a lot of stimulation and are notorious for becoming anxious and reactive as vet Alex revealed.

Amir also said Akita’s can be problematic for people new to dogs, and lawyer Gerald Noonan agrees.

“Their large size, along with their protective instinct, their difficulties interacting with other dogs, and their strong will and independent and stubborn nature combine to make Akitas a dangerous breed of dog,” the lawyer revealed.

Dalmatian’s also made it onto the list of no-go breeds for Amir.

Again, these large dogs were bred for hunting so can make them have some behavioural problems if they aren’t trained by a knowledgeable owner.

Last but not least, Amir said his final ‘controversial’ dog breed to make it onto the list was the Border Collie.

Asked why they made th elist, the vet said: “They're a working breed! Very intelligent and high energy.

“Many people don't understand this and end up not being able to provide proper care.”

The clip has gone viral on the vet’s TikTok account @amirthevet with over 265k views and 5,000 likes.

Dog Owner Guide: All You Need To Know

Owning and keeping a dog happy and healthy is not only a long-term financial, but a lifetime commitment.

People were quick to take to the comments and share their thoughts.

One person wrote: “Whenever I have enough money and space for a dog, I'm going straight to a local shelter and getting a pittie mix.”

“They tend to be the sweetest! Hope you get one,” replied Amir.

Another commented: “Disagree on Akita, mine was the most loyal kind-hearted and smartest dog I've owned.”

“People need to realise that many dogs are super athletic breeds. If you can’t meet their needs, adopt a hamster,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “Had a dalmatian, a liver spotted one. I really miss him, but he was not for the faint of heart.”

“German Shepherd and Dalmatian owner. I can agree to this," claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: "First dog was a dalmatian mix. Definitely agree. Upside, I’m now used to dogs smarter than me. and with more attitude.”
