In a Reddit post, user Chestybestie explained the hack she uses to elevate her beauty routine.

The Redditor offered context on her skin type, which she described as “the worst combination/dry/oily skin.”

She described her issue as a “super oily T-zone and dry flaky skin everywhere else.”

The poster explained that she had tried a wide variety of moisturizers but her skin returned to looking dry with “visible flakes” within hours of use.

“I’ve tried every moisturizer and serum out there for years,” the Reddit user wrote.

“[I] even [tried] many variations of hyaluronic acid right after toning but nothing worked.

“I was pretty much close to calling it quits on ever having dewy moisturized skin.”

In a last-ditch effort, the poster decided to try a DIY experiment to transform her complexion.

Her technique involved “misting toner on my face after every layer of serum or moisturizer.”

“Basically, I bought one of those $1 fine mist spray bottles from the dollar store, sanitized it, and filled it with toner,” she explained.

The Redditor named Thayer’s Witch Hazel Alcohol-free Toner as her go-to.

“I’d tone my face, then apply hyaluronic acid, then spritz toner on my face,” she said.

“I’d lightly pat my face with my fingers for everything to absorb then continue with another serum or moisturizer.

“Then spritz again with toner and pat and, if my moisturizer is water-based, I’d spritz again and pat another time before applying sunscreen and makeup.”

Dermatologist-approved anti-aging tips

Dermatologist Dr. Brendan Camp shared his dermatologist-approved tips with The U.S. Sun.

  • Stop using tanning beds.
  • Don’t use sunscreen to contour your face.
  • Wear driving gloves to protect your hands from the sun. He likes Coolibar Gannett UV Gloves UPF 50+, $15.99 to $39.
  • Exercise, stick to a healthy diet, and get enough sleep.
  • Don’t drink excessively or smoke.

The poster revealed that spritzing her toner was the only change she made to her skincare routine when she noticed the impressive transformation.

“My dry flaky skin problem is gone, my skin is now dewy and moisturized for the entire day,” she said.

“It’s moisturized when I wake up, even my oily areas are less shiny because my skin has stopped overcompensating with overproducing sebum.”

She shared her theory on why the DIY skincare hack worked so well.

“I’m guessing it works because the extra water from the toner helps serums/moisturizers retain more water thus enhancing their moisturizing powers,” she said.

“I’d say this was the best $1 I ever spent on leveling up my skincare.”
