Maddy Glaser and her husband Evan are frequent visitors to Denver International Airport.

Multiple times a month, they find themselves traveling from Colorado back home to the East Coast, where they both are originally from, for weddings, bachelor and bachelorette parties and bridal showers. On top of that they often travel separately a lot for work.

But it wasn't until Maddy, a 30-year-old marketing director, and Evan, a 31-year-old engineer, recently got back from a family vacation in Turks & Caicos where they bonded with Maddy's family over a love for Survivor when Evan was inspired by the show to make their travels more fun.

"A couple of days after getting back from that trip, on Monday morning, Evan left for a work trip to San Francisco," Maddy tells PEOPLE exclusively. "That Friday, I flew out for a girls' weekend in Charleston, just a few hours before Evan was set to land back in Denver. We joked about just missing each other in the terminal, and I think that, mixed with our Survivor-themed trip and the fact that Season 48 had just started, sparked Evan's idea to leave me a 'hidden immunity idol clue' in the Denver airport."

"He texted me saying, 'I left you a note under the corner of the paper can at B37. Let's see if you find it :)' along with a picture of the area ... talk about an easy clue," she adds.

By Monday night, Maddy was back in Denver, eager to find the note. But she also didn't want to look suspicious or cause a scene. So, when she got to the gate he'd sent her to, she stopped and pretended to tie her shoe. Then, she reached under the recycling bin, where she felt the piece of paper.

"Beware! You have found a 'Being My Wife Advantage!' " the note read. "You are entitled to the enclosed money, but it comes with consequences! You must remain married to me and entertain my bulls---. Choose wisely-Ev <3."

Along with the note, there was also $7. "I couldn't believe it was still there," she says, recalling how she felt at the moment.

"When I found that first clue Evan left me at the airport, I was grinning ear to ear like a lovesick idiot," she adds. "It was seriously just the cutest thing ever and made me feel like I was in a movie or a book. And honestly, I feel that way every time I get a note from him."

Since then, the couple has continued to leave each other notes at the airport, along with other notes around their house when their travels overlap. Maddy says they've often left notes all over the place for each other, ever since they met back in 2018.

"We mostly use it as a simple way to communicate," she says. "Sure, a text would do, but there's something so much more personal about a handwritten note. I've woken up countless times to notes on my nightstand that say things like, 'Went to get us breakfast, brb' or 'At the gym <3.' We also leave notes for each other on the calendar in our kitchen. Sometimes as simple as 'Hi :)' or 'Miss you!,' and other times more practical, like sharing whether the dogs have gotten breakfast that morning or not."

"Seeing so many people engaging with our story and asking about how it all started made me pause and really reflect on just how much these notes mean to us," Maddy adds. "These notes have always been a small but meaningful part of our daily lives. They usually happen in passing, between the big moments, so I never fully realized just how often they occur or how much they've shaped our relationship."

She continues, "It wasn't until the excitement around this video that we both took a step back to truly appreciate the significance of these little gestures and the connection they've helped build between us."
