Good Night, and Good Luck, the upcoming play starring George Clooney, has officially set its run on Broadway!

The drama's first performance will be on March 12, 2025 at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City. Opening night is slated for Thursday, April 3.

Based on the film of the same name released in 2005, Good Night, and Good Luck follows Edward R. Murrow, a 1950s broadcast journalist, as he challenges Wisconsin senator Joseph McCarthy and his controversial political tactics.

"I am honored, after all these years, to be coming back to the stage and especially to Broadway, the art form and the venue that every actor aspires to," the ER actor wrote in a statement.

Clooney, who directed the movie and played former president of CBS Fred Friendly, will play Murrow, who died in 1965. Further cast members will be named at an additional date.

The film famously starred Clooney as well as Jeff Daniels, Alex Borstein, Patricia Clarkson, Robert Downey Jr. and more.

Tony winner David Cromer will direct the Broadway adaptation. Clooney and Grant Heslov, who co-wrote the 2005 film, also wrote the play together.

"Edward R. Murrow operated from a kind of moral clarity that feels vanishingly rare in today's media landscape," Cromer added in the statement. "There was an immediacy in those early live television broadcasts that today can only be effectively captured on stage, in front of a live audience."

This will mark Clooney's Broadway debut. His ER costar Julianna Margulies, currently on the boards in Left on Tenth, told PEOPLE earlier this month that she reached out to the actor with encouragement when she learned of his casting.

"I've just given him a lot of kudos," Margulies said, when asked if she gave any advice to Clooney. "I just emailed him and said, 'I'm so proud of you. You don't have to do this.' "

Margulies went on to note that stage acting can be more challenging than television.

"It's scary, you know, being on Broadway. And the world we live in now, everyone's a judge, and you have to block all that out and do your work," Margulies remarked. "And so, I'm really proud of him for picking a hard road. It's not easy work, and I'm really impressed that he's doing it."
