The bestselling romance author's Spring 2025 novel follows two writers vying for the same juicy scoop

Emily Henry has a new book coming!

Great Big Beautiful Life, a new romance novel from the bestselling author, 33, is hitting bookshelves on April 22, 2025 — and PEOPLE can exclusively debut its cover.

The upcoming book will follow two writers as they vie "for the chance to tell the larger-than-life story of a woman with more than a couple of plot twists up her sleeve," according to an official description.

"Alice Scott is an eternal optimist still dreaming of her big writing break. Hayden Anderson is a Pulitzer-prize winning human thundercloud," the description teases. "And they're both on balmy Little Crescent Island for the same reason: To write the biography of a woman no one has seen in years — or at least to meet with the octogenarian who claims to be the Margaret Ives."

Who's Margaret Ives, you ask? The "tragic heiress, former tabloid princess and daughter of one of the most storied (and scandalous) families of the 20th Century," offers both Alice and Hayden a chance to write her story — but only after and a one-month trial period to prove themselves worthy of the gig.

When the time is up, Margaret will choose who gets to tell her story. For Alice, three things are keeping her in the game.

"One: Alice genuinely likes people, which means people usually like Alice — and she has a whole month to win the legendary woman over," the description explains. "Two: She's ready for this job and the chance to impress her perennially unimpressed family with a Serious Publication."

But as anyone who follows real-life celebrity news might expect, Margaret is only giving each of them little pieces of her story and there's an ironclad NDA keeping them from sharing the deets. Plus, as Henry fans have come to know and love, there's the "inconvenient yearning pulsing between them every time they're in the same room," the description promises. "And it's becoming abundantly clear that their story — just like the tale Margaret's spinning — could be a mystery, tragedy or love ballad … depending on who's telling it."

Great Big Beautiful Life comes over four years after the publication of Henry's breakthrough romance novel Beach Read, which launched her into the literary spotlight.

The author's books — including bestsellers People We Meet on Vacation(2021), Book Lovers(2022), Happy Place(2023) and Funny Story(2024) — have sold 7 million copies since 2020, according to The New York Times.

They have also garnered her a dedicated fanbase, who, as they await more news about Great Big Beautiful Life, also have several film and TV adaptations to look forward to.

Netflix's movie adaptation of People We Meet on Vacation cast Emily Bader and Tom Blyth as leads Poppy and Alex earlier this year, though no release date has been announced. Beach Read and Book Lovers are also being adapted into films, along with Funny Story, for which the author herself will write the script.

Happy Place, meanwhile, was optioned by Netflix for a series by Jennifer Lopez's Nuyorican Productions.

Great Big Beautiful Life comes out April 22, 2025 from Berkley and is available for preorder now, wherever books are sold.
