"She's unbelievably hard working, and no one gets to see that," the former soccer star gushed of his wife
Victoria Beckham has a new documentary series in the works. But getting her to participate in it took some convincing from her husband, David Beckham.
During an appearance on the Today show to promote his new IM8 supplement on Tuesday, Jan. 14, the former professional athlete revealed his wife was a bit of reluctant participant in the forthcoming project, which Netflix announced was in production back in August.
"Yeah, it wasn't the most easiest thing to get her to agree to," admitted David to co-anchors Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin.
But David, who won an Emmy for his own docseries Beckham, knew Victoria would excel in the format. After all, her appearance in his series had the whole internet talking.
"In my opinion, she was the star of mine," he continued. "So I just thought, 'This is the opportunity.' "
Like Beckham, Victoria's doc is set to follow the Spice Girls popstar-turned-designer as she navigates her ultra successful eponymous fashion and beauty business.
"She's been working on her brand for the last 18 years," David said on Today. "She's unbelievably hard working, and no one gets to see that. So I convinced her to let people actually see what she does every day and what goes into her business. She's a very cleaver and hard-working lady, so I want people to see that."
Viewers can also expect a peek behind the scenes of Victoria's married to David, and their family with their four kids: Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 13.
It's unclear whether there will be more dancing, like the popular scene at the end of Beckham that inspired a viral challenge across social media. "[That] just happened last second," David recalled of the moment. "You can see all the kids were embarrassed. But at that point, the song meant something to us and we just danced. It was just us at the end of the day."

But there's another reason David is so keen on Victoria doing the documentary. He said that making the series himself had a sizable impact on his life, and allowed him a great moments of reflection.
"I never really look back at my career and the things that I've done at that time. ... So it was a moment I could celebrate that and also kind of have a session where I talked about things I've never spoke about before," he said.

In a January 2024 interview with the Financial Times, Victoria said the experience of filming alongside her husband was "quite liberating."
"I was very mindful that usually, when I did my filming, I would be controlling," said the designer. "But this was very much about David, and so I took the approach of, 'I'm just going to be very easy‑going here.'"
"People come up and they're like, 'We love the documentary,' " she added. "Let me tell you … They used to be scared to approach."
