CHAOS erupted as a housing estate and cars were left underwater with schools forced to shut because of a water main burst.

A burst water main has flooded several homes and forced the closure of multiple schools in Rochdale, Greater Manchester.

Locals have shared shocking images on social media which show cars and homes on on the Kirkholt estate partially submerged.

Engineers are reportedly on the scene, with nearby residents warned they may experience reduced water pressure.

A spokesman for United Utilities spokesperson said: “Engineers are currently at Gerrard Street in Rochdale fixing a burst water pipe.

“We have sent our water-on-wheels tankers to the area and brought in water from another part of the network to help keep customers' taps flowing.

“Some may notice they have low pressure or no water whilst the repairs are being carried out. We'd like to apologise to those customers impacted.”
